In my first writing course at Salt Lake Community College, our final paper was an exercise in evaluative writing. We were allowed to evaluate any topic of our choosing, and I selected the Russian film, Russian Ark. Evaluative writing requires that a topic be judged successful, or not, based on criteria found within its respective discipline. The film Russian Ark is wildly successful because it is a ground breaking piece of cinema. 

This is an ideal signature assignment for the class. I feel my evaluative writing strikes the balance between passionate and academic; walking the line between analytic and informative.
